Musikverein - Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde

The Musikverein provides an impressive setting for the Ball of Industry and Technology. Designed by the architect Theophil Hansen (1813–1891) as part of the development of Vienna’s Ringstrasse, the building features striking elements of Philhellenism, an artistic movement that had a lasting influence on Hansen following an extended period of study in Athens.

Hansen created a classical setting for classical works: the caryatids that characterise the magnificent Golden Hall are every bit as impressive as the Ionic columns in the Brahms Hall and the use of ancient polychromy throughout the building.

The Ball of Industry and Technology could hardly wish for a more fitting setting.
